71 applications submitted for the international two-stage architectural design contest of building for Arvo Pärt Centre

Yesterday, January 22 at 16 pm was the deadline of submitting documents for the first stage of international two-stage architectural design contest of building for Arvo Pärt Centre. 71 envelopes from all over the world were received by the office of the Union of Estonian Architects.  The highest number of entries came from Estonia – 24, all together architects from 24 different countries are represented in the competition.

In collaboration with the Union of Estonian Architects, the Arvo Pärt Centre has announced a two-stage competition for designing a building for the Arvo Pärt Centre in Laulasmaa, near Tallinn. The aim of the competition is to find the best architectural solution for the building, which will house the Arvo Pärt archive at its core.

The building of the Arvo Pärt Centre will be located in Laulasmaa, on the Lohusalu peninsula. A new building will give possibility to extend the centre’s scope – to work together with researchers, include educational programmes, hold conferences, exhibitions, music and film nights and be more open to the public.

Jury will choose up to 20 architect teams to the second stage of the competition to complete design concepts with technical drawings. The total prize fund for the two-stage competition is 30,000 euros, and the final results will be announced on 20 June 2014.
