Houses LT - Contemporary Lithuanian architecture to be presented in Tallinn 28. 06.– 12.07. 2011

20.06.2011

On June 28 an architectural exhibition HOUSES LT, which puts a focus on contemporary designs of the individual house projects in Lithuania, will be opened at 18:00 hrs at the Architecture and Design Gallery (Pärnu mnt 6, 10117 Tallinn)

The exhibition comprises 37 projects designed by well-known Lithuanian architects: Vilius Adomavičius, Gintaras Balčytis, Darius Čiuta, Algimantas Kančas, Gintautas Natkevičius, Alvydas Šeibokas and others. All projects were designed and completed in the past ten years.

“The architectural examples presented both in the exhibition, and in the catalogue which accompanies it, is a proof that in our country, less and less attention is given to regional and local norms and values. Indeed, the majority of projects represent global architectural trends; consequently, each house presented here could be built in any European country”, - Gintaras Balčytis, the curator of the exhibition HOUSES LT, says.

The exhibition HOUSES LT is a first project of that kind. It does not only aims to show the main trends in the contemporary Lithuanian architecture, but also seeks to achieve much more – namely, to disclose parallels between modernity and tradition, continuity and change, globalism and localism.

“All things considered, evident changes in our lifestyles and perceptions are emerging – social and cultural liberalization affects how we treat surrounding realities, consequently, it also affects our attitude to architecture, arts and our lifestyles in general” – said Gintaras Balčytis.

The architectural exhibition is accompanied by the exhibition catalogue under the same name (HOUSES LT), which is published in the Lithuanian and English languages.

Tallinn is not the first stop for this exhibition - on October 2010 the exhibition Houses LT was presented in Tbilisi, Georgia, on March 2011 – in Kiev, Ukraine, on May 2011 in Salzburg, Austria. After Tallinn the exhibition Houses LT goes to Minsk, Belarus and to Helsinki, Finland.
